(Photo: IANS) The family of Mayank Lohar, the 22-year-old man who was stabbed to death inside a Mumbai local train, has demanded the death penalty for the accused, saying the brutal killing has shattered their lives. Mayank’s mother, inconsolable with grief, said her son would never pick a fight with anyone and insisted that the accused deserved the harshest punishment. “My child hasn’t eaten anything; he is hungry," she said, breaking down.
“He wouldn’t even step out of the house unnecessarily… What can I do? Where do I go?" she added. The accused was arrested a day after the incident. Mayank’s elder sister said her brother never travelled hanging from train doors and described him as a peace-loving person. “You can ask anyone in our residential building. He wouldn’t fight with anyone. He was just 22 years old; his entire life was ahead of him. If he doesn’t get the death penalty, then tomorrow someone else will die," she said. His father, Ramesh Lohar, pointed to the brutality of the attack and questioned what emboldened the accused. “Have you seen the video? Look at the way he attacked him, carrying a knife and using it so brutally. Who is he? What gave him the courage to do something like this?
The entire administration and the whole world can see what he has done," he said. Argument Over Train Doors Turned Fatal According to officials, the incident took place on Tuesday night inside a first-class compartment of a Churchgate-Nallasopara fast local train. Mayank Lohar and another commuter allegedly got into an argument as the train reached Andheri station around 10.42 pm. One passenger wanted the doors to remain open, while the other objected because of the rain. During the altercation, the accused allegedly pulled out a sharp weapon and stabbed Lohar in the abdomen. After the attack, the accused jumped off the train at Borivali station before it came to a halt and fled. Lohar, who suffered grievous injuries, was rushed to a nearby medical facility with the help of Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel.
