Tata Communications' joint venture with Singapore's ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) on Wednesday said a preliminary assessment of the June 5 fire at its Delhi data centre showed the incident was confined to a single data hall and its supporting infrastructure, as it continues to support affected customers and investigate the cause of the blaze. The statement marks the first detailed update from the company since the fire, which previously led Tata Communications' unit Novamesh to tell customers that the incident had caused "extensive damage" to parts of the facility and made data recovery efforts challenging.STT GDC India said its initial findings indicate that the fire's impact was restricted to one data hall and associated infrastructure, and that a detailed root cause analysis is underway. The cause of the fire remains unclear.
Delhi fire authorities had earlier said the blaze originated in lithium battery units.Customers continue to grapple with disruptionThe June 5 fire disrupted services for several customers and triggered business continuity protocols at the facility. customers could continue to experience latency issues until the affected facility is fully restored.Tata Communications' unit Novamesh had earlier described the incident as a "force majeure event", saying the severity of the fire had significantly hindered services and presented major challenges in recovering affected data and systems.
