(Image: X/LinkedIn) Twisha Sharma, a 33-year-old former Miss Pune contestant, was found hanging at her matrimonial home in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area on May 12, triggering outrage after her family accused her in-laws of dowry harassment, domestic abuse and mental torture. Twisha Sharma’s parents, Navnidhi Sharma and Rekha Sharma, who are based in Greater Noida, have been in Bhopal for the past few days seeking justice for their daughter. The family alleged they were “fighting against a system not supporting them at all".
Who Was Twisha Sharma? Twisha Sharma had been living in Bhopal with her husband, lawyer Samarth Singh, and his mother, retired judge Giribala Singh, since her marriage in December 2025. The couple had reportedly met through a dating application. Twisha had won the Miss Pune title in 2012 and had also worked in two films. Before getting married, she had completed her MBA and was employed at a multinational company. Twisha was found dead on Tuesday night. On Friday, police said an FIR had been registered against her husband and mother-in-law under Section 80(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) based on a complaint filed by her family.
Her parents, however, claimed that considerable effort was required before the FIR was lodged. In a statement issued on Saturday, the family alleged that Twisha’s death was being incorrectly portrayed as suicide. They demanded a fresh postmortem examination at All India Institute of Medical Sciences Delhi, a court-monitored investigation and transfer of the case to an independent agency. “Our daughter … was found dead under highly suspicious circumstances in Bhopal within merely about five months of her marriage. Today, the death of our daughter is no longer only a personal tragedy for our family; it has become a test of the justice system, women’s safety, and the constitutional values of this country," the family said. The parents further claimed that the postmortem report from AIIMS Bhopal mentioned that the rope allegedly used in the hanging was neither recovered from the spot nor submitted by the investigating officer for forensic analysis.
