The chilling detail emerged during the investigation into the crime that has shocked the national capital. According to police, the accused, identified as Bablu, allegedly kidnapped the girl from beside her sleeping family, drove her nearly 20 kilometres away, raped and killed her, and then resumed his routine as if nothing had happened. The accused was arrested within hours after Delhi Police tracked him through CCTV footage, GPS data and technical surveillance. On Tuesday evening, he was shot in the leg after allegedly trying to escape custody while being taken to the crime scene on the Gurugram-Faridabad road. Read Full Story According to Delhi Police sources, the 11-year-old girl was sleeping with her parents, two sisters and brother on a pavement in the Mehrauli area in the early hours of Monday. Investigators said the accused, who worked as a cab driver, had parked his vehicle nearby while waiting for a ride booking. Police believe he spotted the child sleeping beside her family and forcibly picked her up. The girl woke up and began screaming.
"My daughter also shouted. I ran behind the cab and even hurled a stick at his car," the victim's father told PTI. Despite the father's desperate chase, the accused managed to flee with the child. The family immediately alerted police, triggering a massive search operation. CCTV FOOTAGE LEADS POLICE TO ACCUSED Police examined CCTV footage from the area and allegedly found visuals showing the accused carrying away the child. Though the vehicle's registration number was not visible, investigators discovered that the vehicle had remained near the spot for nearly an hour before the abduction. Police said the vehicle reached the location around 4 am and the child was abducted at around 5 am. Investigators then sought details from app-based cab aggregators, including Ola, Uber and Rapido, and matched them with CCTV footage collected from surrounding routes. The vehicle and its driver were eventually identified. Using GPS data and mobile phone location records, police tracked the accused to Vikaspuri and arrested him. Police sources said more than 20 teams were involved in the operation. KILLED CHILD, THEN RETURNED TO WORK According to investigators, the accused initially denied any involvement in the case.
However, during questioning, he allegedly confessed to the crime. Police say he drove the girl nearly 20 kilometres away to a secluded stretch along the Gurugram-Faridabad road. Investigators allege he restrained the child inside the vehicle before taking her into a forested area, where he raped her and strangled her to death using a cloth. The body was later recovered by police from the area. What investigators say happened next has added another disturbing layer to the case. According to police, after allegedly killing the child and abandoning her body, the accused returned to his vehicle and resumed work. Investigators claim he even picked up a passenger from Gurugram and dropped the rider in Delhi before he was eventually tracked down and arrested. ACCUSED SHOT DURING ESCAPE ATTEMPT On Tuesday evening, police took the accused to the crime scene as part of the investigation. According to police, he attempted to escape from custody while officers were reconstructing the sequence of events. Police opened fire, hitting him in the leg. He was taken for medical treatment and is reported to be stable.
