Abhishek Banerjee Braces For Stormy Monsoon Session As ED Closes In On Teachers' Recruitment Scam Reported By, Edited By Last Updated: June 24, 2026, 17:00 IST The ED probe has so far flagged transactions involving a company called Leaps and Bounds Pvt Ltd, which was allegedly founded by Banerjee’s close associate and manager Rapid Read TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee (Image: PTI) The upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament could bring both political and legal challenges for Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee. Politically, he could find nearly two-thirds of his party’s MPs sitting across the aisle. Legally, Enforcement Directorate (ED) chargesheets in at least three cases could be looming, with at least one of them potentially naming him directly. Top Enforcement Directorate officials told CNN-News18 that chargesheets in at least three cases—the municipality scam, the cattle smuggling case, and the teachers’ recruitment scam—could be filed within the next month. “Investigation is drawing to a close in the three cases. We have found digital and documentary evidence showing how proceeds of crime were laundered.
We are aiming to file chargesheets within the next month," an official said. Sources said Abhishek Banerjee could be named directly in the teachers’ recruitment scam chargesheet. “There is a paper trail indicating that bribe money collected from teaching job aspirants was invested in a company owned by Abhishek Banerjee," a probe official alleged. Company Under Scanner The ED probe has so far flagged transactions involving a company called Leaps and Bounds Pvt Ltd. The private firm was allegedly founded by Banerjee’s close associate and manager, Sujay Krishna Bhadra, who was raided by the ED in 2023 and arrested shortly thereafter. In a statement issued at the time, the ED said: “The accused, Bhadra, was the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of M/s Leaps and Bounds Private Limited, a company used for making dubious transactions running into crores of rupees. Bhadra was also a director in this company from April 2012 to March 2016. Abhishek Banerjee, MP from TMC, is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of M/s Leaps and Bounds Private Limited and was also a director in the company from April 2012 to January 2014." The ED claimed that various incriminating documents and digital evidence were recovered and seized during search operations.
The agency has further alleged that Abhishek Banerjee, his wife and other family members were the real beneficiaries behind Leaps and Bounds. Banerjee Asked To Explain On June 15, Banerjee was questioned for nearly 11 hours by ED officials in Kolkata. Officials said around two dozen questions were put to the TMC MP regarding banking transactions linked to the company, digital records and communication data recovered during the investigation. According to officials, he was also asked to explain “inconsistencies observed between earlier submissions and fresh material recovered during searches". Statements, Digital Evidence The ED’s final report in the case could also rely on statements made by some of the accused as well as digital evidence, including call records. According to officials, accused Bhadra stated that primary school teaching job aspirants approached him because of his relationship with Abhishek Banerjee. Call recordings and forensic evidence recovered from the phones of the accused could also be relied upon by investigators to establish alleged complicity. The CBI, in its parallel probe, has alleged that phone call records point to communication regarding illegal appointments and the collection of bribes.
