A 17-year-old girl's body was recovered from beneath sand along the banks of the Kanchi River in Jharkhand's Ranchi after a dog's unusual behaviour led villagers to the spot. Suspicious of the animal's actions, they approached the area and found a part of a human body protruding from beneath the sand, triggering panic in the locality.

As officers removed the sand, they recovered the body of a teenage girl. The victim's mother, who arrived at the scene, identified the body as that of her 17-year-old daughter. Police said the girl had been living for the past several years at her maternal uncle's house.
She had been missing for about a week, and her family had been searching for her on their own. Bundu DSP Om Prakash said preliminary investigation suggests that the girl was murdered. He said the victim had been missing since last Wednesday, but her family had not lodged a missing person complaint and had instead continued their own search efforts. Police suspect the perpetrators buried the body in sand along the Kanchi River in an attempt to conceal the victim's identity and hide evidence of the crime.
Investigators are probing all possible angles to determine the motive behind the killing and identify those responsible. Ends
