‘Family Shame’: Why Siya Goyal Turned To Ketan Agarwal’s Murder Instead Of Eloping With Boyfriend Published By, Last Updated: June 24, 2026, 15:30 IST Police questioned Chetan Chaudhary about why he and Siya Goyal did not simply run away together instead of allegedly plotting Ketan’s murder. (From left) Deceased Ketan Agarwal and accused Siya Goyal and her lover Chetan Chaudhary. A new detail has emerged in the Pune Lohagad murder case. Police claim accused Siya Goyal feared bringing shame to her family by calling off her engagement and eloping with her partner, Chetan Chaudhary. Police sources say this concern became a key factor behind the alleged conspiracy to murder 24-year-old Ketan Agarwal, to whom she was engaged. The case, which was initially treated as a trekking accident, took a dramatic turn after police examined CCTV footage and other evidence collected during the investigation. Why Siya Chose To Kill Ketan? According to police sources quoted by PTI, investigators questioned Chetan Chaudhary about why he and Siya Goyal did not simply run away together instead of allegedly plotting Ketan’s murder.
“During the interrogation, Chetan was asked why they did not consider running away and instead chose to eliminate Ketan. According to him, Siya was not in favour of calling off the engagement and eloping with Chetan, as she thought doing so would bring disrespect to her family," police sources said. Siya and Chetan subsequently conspired to kill Ketan Agarwal. Death Initially Treated As Accident Ketan Agarwal, who was engaged to Siya Goyal, died after allegedly falling from Lohagad Fort near Pune on June 18. Following the incident, Siya informed his family that he had slipped during a trek and fallen from the fort. The death was initially viewed as an accident. However, investigators said fresh evidence later prompted them to take a closer look at the circumstances surrounding the incident. CCTV Footage Raises Suspicion According to police, the investigation changed direction after officers reviewed CCTV footage from the ticket counter at Lohagad Fort. The footage allegedly showed a hooded man following Ketan and Siya during their visit.
“The man was wearing shorts and a hoodie. The front part of the hoodie was pulled so low that his face could not be seen. Additionally, the man was wearing a headset over the hoodie. In another footage clip, we noticed Siya suddenly looking back and, at the same time, the man in the hoodie suddenly sitting down," a police officer said. The unusual behaviour captured on camera drew the attention of investigators. Hooded Man Identified Police said they later examined weather conditions on June 18 and found that temperatures were around 33 degrees Celsius. Investigators questioned why a person would be wearing a hoodie in such warm conditions. Further inquiries led police to identify the hooded man as Chetan Chaudhary. According to investigators, the CCTV footage and other evidence strengthened their suspicion that Siya and Chetan had planned Ketan’s murder. Both accused have been arrested in the case. Accused In Police Custody Police have alleged that Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary conspired together to kill Ketan Agarwal.
