The death of a crew member on the set of Love & War has triggered calls for legal action and a wider review of safety
The death of a crew member on the set of Love & War has triggered calls for legal action and a wider review of safety standards in the film industry. The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has written to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, seeking the registration of an FIR against filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, a compensation package of Rs 1 crore for the deceased worker's family, and a high-level investigation into the incident. Read Full Story In the letter, AICWA president Suresh Shyamlal Gupta said the death of crew member Chandradhari Singh Yadav had raised serious concerns about workplace safety on film sets. The association, which also shared the letter on social media, alleged that mandatory safety protocols were not adequately implemented on the large-scale production starring Ranbir Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal and Alia Bhatt. According to the letter, the incident may have been prevented had the required safety measures been strictly enforced.
Gupta also referred to previous accidents allegedly linked to Bhansali's film productions. He claimed that during the making of Devdas, worker Dindayal Yadav lost his life while another worker sustained serious injuries. The letter further alleged that another worker, Subhash Morkar, died during the same production period. Gupta also cited the reported death of worker Mukesh Dakiya during the production of Padmaavat and said Chandradhari Singh Yadav's death was the latest such incident. Seeking government intervention, AICWA urged the Chief Minister to direct authorities to register an FIR against producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the production house, and any individuals found responsible. The association called for charges to be considered under provisions relating to culpable homicide, negligence and other offences that may emerge during the course of the investigation. The organisation has also sought an independent high-level enquiry into the incident, along with a comprehensive safety audit of the film's set and working conditions.
Among its key demands, AICWA asked for Rs 1 crore in compensation for Yadav's family, employment or financial assistance for his widow, and long-term financial support for his two daughters until they become financially independent. The association further requested that shooting at the location be suspended until authorities verify compliance with mandatory safety norms and issue the necessary clearances. It also called for regular safety audits across film sets in Maharashtra and stricter enforcement of workplace safety regulations within the industry.
