The debate over the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) is gaining traction in Maharashtra, with senior leaders of the Mahayuti government strongly backing its implementation. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde reiterated that the UCC aligns with the vision of Balasaheb Thackeray and remains a key objective for the Shiv Sena. Maharashtra Minister Nitesh Rane defended the proposal on constitutional grounds, arguing that those who accept the Constitution should support a Uniform Civil Code, while his remarks linking opposition to the UCC with support for Sharia law have added to the political controversy.
