Constable Jitender Kumar, posted at Ashok Vihar police station, was returning to the police station on a government motorcycle after preserving a body at the mortuary of Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital.
According to the FIR, a silver sedan allegedly driven by the 19-year-old approached from behind and suddenly swerved to the left, colliding with the constable’s motorcycle. The impact threw both the constable and his motorcycle onto the road. Police said the girl did not stop after the collision and allegedly ran over both of the constable’s legs. Police personnel from Ashok Vihar police station reached the scene and shifted Constable Jitender Kumar to a hospital for treatment. Investigators found both the damaged government motorcycle and the car at the spot. The girl, who was present near the vehicle, was apprehended by the police. During the investigation, police found that the accused did not possess a valid driving licence. Based on the constable’s statement and the findings at the scene, an FIR was registered under Sections 281 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Section 3/181 of the Motor Vehicles Act for driving without a licence. Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain all the circumstances surrounding the accident.
