A spelling mistake on Google Maps has turned into a major problem for residents of a village in Uttar Pradesh’s Firozabad. Residents have claimed that a wrong name entry on the online platform is now disrupting government work. The village is called Akalabad Hasanpur, but Google Maps lists it as Akilabad Hanspur — a minor difference in spelling that residents say has created major confusion.
Read Full Story According to the villagers, government departments increasingly rely on digital databases and location mapping for various services. As a result, whenever residents apply for documents or benefits using the official village name, the mismatch with Google’s database creates problems. Villagers said online records linked to Aadhaar cards, voter cards, birth and death certificates and certificates related to government schemes are affected because the location details do not match.
Residents claim that when government officials or villagers enter “Akalabad Hasanpur” in online systems, the location does not correspond with Google’s listing, which continues to show “Akilabad Hanspur." The villagers have reportedly raised the issue several times during public grievance hearings, but they allege that technical teams often treat Google’s information as correct instead of verifying the actual ground records.
When contacted, SDM Satyendra Singh said the issue had come to his notice and steps were being taken to resolve it. He said a letter would be sent to Google requesting correction of the village name. Ends
