The alert remained in effect for three hours before being downgraded to an orange alert at 7 am. According to the weather department, moderate to intense spells of rain are expected to continue across Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Palghar and Sindhudurg districts.
Despite the heavy rainfall, the city’s transport network remained largely unaffected. Officials said all major subways were operational, while suburban train services continued to run on schedule. BEST bus services also functioned normally, providing relief to commuters heading to work on Wednesday morning. The overnight showers followed the arrival of the southwest monsoon in Mumbai on Tuesday, nearly two weeks later than its usual onset date of June 10. The rains brought much-needed respite from the humid conditions that had persisted across the city over the past several weeks.
