The Cauvery River water dispute between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu is intensifying. During a Cauvery Water Management Authority meeting, Tamil Nadu pressed Karnataka to release its due share of nine TMC of water. Tamil Nadu requested details on irrigation tank filling and lift irrigation schemes affecting river flows.
Karnataka stated that delayed monsoon rains and poor inflows have resulted in lower reservoir storage and reduced outflows. This water crisis impacts Tamil Nadu's short-term kurvai and long-term samba cultivations, particularly in the delta districts. The water is shared by four states: Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry.
