Anthropic has unveiled a new feature called Claude Tag, designed to turn its Claude chatbot into a virtual teammate that can actively participate in workplace conversations rather than simply respond to questions. The new feature acts as an "always-on Claude" inside Slack, allowing employees to bring the AI into a conversation by typing @Claude in a thread. According to Anthropic, the AI continuously learns from the channels it has access to, building a deeper understanding of the team's work over time. If granted permission, it can also gather relevant information from other channels across the organisation. Think of it as a digital coworker that sits in your team's chat room, remembers previous discussions, and can instantly catch up new participants. Everyone in a Slack channel interacts with the same Claude identity, meaning team members can continue a conversation with the AI from where someone else left off. More than just a chatbot Claude Tag can also work proactively. Beyond responding to requests, it can automatically remind teams about forgotten tasks, surface important updates from elsewhere in the company, and flag information that may be relevant to ongoing projects.

When assigned a task, the AI breaks it into multiple steps and works through them using the tools and data it has been allowed to access. Companies remain in control Anthropic says organisations will remain in control of what the AI can see. System administrators can define which channels, documents, and tools Claude can access. Separate Claude identities can also be created for different departments, ensuring that information from one team does not automatically spill over into another. Available first for Slack users The feature will initially be available in beta for Slack users on Claude Enterprise and Claude Team plans. The move is the latest by Anthropic to build on strong early demand for its AI tools from businesses.

The growing interest in its products has helped push the company's valuation to $965 billion, surpassing that of OpenAI. Anthropic also filed confidentially for an initial public offering earlier this month. Its launch highlights the growing battle among AI companies to win enterprise customers, with businesses increasingly looking for AI tools that can help employees collaborate, manage projects, and automate routine work.
