Authorities in Prayagraj have sealed Khan Global Classes, a coaching institute associated with educator Khan Sir, as part of a statewide crackdown on coaching centres following the deadly fire at a coaching institute in Lucknow's Aliganj area that killed 15 people. The action was taken on the directions of Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA) vice-chairman Rishi Raj after inspections were launched to check whether coaching institutes were complying with building and safety regulations. Students were asked to leave the premises and the office was shut before the building was sealed. Authorities also pasted a notice outside the premises warning that any attempt to break the seal or resume operations without permission would invite legal action, including the registration of an FIR. The move has triggered concern among coaching centre operators in the area, with authorities indicating that action could be taken against other institutions found violating land-use regulations.
BUILDING WAS NOT APPROVED FOR COMMERCIAL USE According to PDA officials, the building in which Khan Global Classes was operating had been approved for commercial use. However, coaching institutes fall under the category of community service facilities and require separate land-use approval. "The building has permission for commercial use, but the required approval for community facility land use was not obtained. Therefore, action has been taken in accordance with the rules," a PDA official said.
The move comes a day after a devastating fire at a coaching institute in Lucknow triggered concerns over safety standards and regulatory compliance at educational establishments across Uttar Pradesh. Following the incident, local authorities have begun inspections of coaching centres and other high-footfall institutions in several cities. Ends
