(Photo: IANS) The father of Twisha Sharma, who was found dead at her husband’s home in Bhopal last week, has demanded a second post-mortem of his daughter at AIIMS-Delhi, claiming that the evidence and first post-mortem report do not match. Refuting drug addict charges against his daughter, Navnidhi Sharma said, “If any drug-related case is to be made, it should be against their own son (Samarth Singh), because the whole world knows he is a major drug addict. I strongly suspect this was murder." Navnidhi has also opposed the anticipatory bail being granted to e Miss Pune’s mother-in-law, Giribala Singh.
Both Samarth and Giribala were booked under relevant sections of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961. Navnidhi, who earlier protested outside Chief Minister Mohan Yadav’s residence in Bhopal, has also claimed that Samarth’s family is “high profile" and said he has lost any hope for justice. “The PM (postmortem) report and evidence do not match. This is the reason we have applied for second postmortem. We want the government to take cognizance. This is a high profile family. We have lost any hope for justice," he said. Navnidhi has submitted an urgent representation to the Governor of Madhya Pradesh, Mangubhai C Patel, citing the powerful administrative stature of Giribala Singh, who is is a former senior judicial officer of the state and currently serves in a prominent quasi-judicial role within the Madhya Pradesh State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission. The representation appeals for an immediate administrative review and the temporary removal or suspension of Giribala Singh from her adjudicatory duties while the criminal investigation is active. The provisional post-mortem report has cited the cause of death as antemortem hanging by ligature, but also explicitly flagged multiple antemortem blunt force injuries on other parts of her body.

We are receiving constant threats—via phone calls and messages—and we find ourselves trapped in a situation where our very lives are at risk. Even the police appear to be siding with them," he said. Twisha was found hanging on May 12 at the residential premises of her mother-in- law, Giribala Singh, located in the Katara Hills area of Bhopal. Following her death, the Katara Hills Police Station registered a First Information Report on May 15 naming Twisha’s husband, Samarth Singh, and her mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, as the primary accused. The initial police records contain serious allegations of persistent dowry harassment, mental cruelty, and physical torture inflicted upon Twisha following her marriage on December 9, 2025.
Samarth is on the run after Twisha’s death. The police have announced a reward of Rs 10,000 for information leading to the arrest of the main accused, Samarth Singh and have also written to the Passport Office seeking cancellation of his passport.
