Amid an ongoing probe into the rape and murder of a minor girl in the national capital, the accused was shot in the leg during an encounter as he reportedly attempted to escape from police custody. The 11-year-old girl was allegedly abducted from a pavement in Mehrauli where she was sleeping beside her family in the early hours of Monday. Minor Girl Abducted From Pavement According to the police, the driver allegedly abducted the girl, raped her and later strangled her before dumping the body in a forested stretch along the Faridabad-Gurugram road, PTI reported. The accused was arrested within six hours of the crime after more than 20 police teams tracked him down using CCTV footage and technical surveillance. The girl’s family informed police through a PCR call after discovering that she had been taken away. According to the police, the victim’s father told investigators that he heard his daughter screaming as she was being abducted by a man in a car.
However, he was unable to provide the registration number of the vehicle, leaving investigators with little information in the initial stages of the probe. Following the complaint, Delhi Police launched an extensive search operation and constituted multiple teams to trace the missing child. Officials said investigators scanned footage from hundreds of CCTV cameras and used technical surveillance tools to identify the vehicle involved in the kidnapping. According to police, investigators eventually traced a WagonR car suspected to have been used in the crime. The vehicle was linked to Bablu. A senior police officer said multiple teams were formed immediately after the complaint was received, and CCTV footage from surrounding areas was analysed to track the suspect. Soon after, the accused cab driver was traced and nabbed. Police said the accused confessed to dumping the girl’s body on the Faridabad-Gurugram road.
