"You left me on my birthday. u left when we were so close to getting married. I still can't understand why you did this to me... Why did you leave me when I loved you so much? Rest in peace. (sic)" Those emotional words, posted by Siya Goyal on social media after the death of her fianc, Ketan Agrawal, had touched the hearts of many. Shared on June 19, her birthday, alongside a video montage of memories, the post drew sympathy from friends and strangers alike who knew Ketan had died in a tragic hiking accident.
Read Full Story Days later, that same post is being viewed through a dramatically different lens. Police in Pune have arrested the 20-year-old woman and her alleged lover, Chetan Chaudhary, accusing them of murdering Ketan and passing off his death as an accident. The incident was initially believed to be the result of an accidental fall. The preliminary conclusion was primarily based on Goyal's statement. She was accompanying Agarwal to the site. She had said that her fianc slipped and fell into a deep gorge while they were on an outing to Lohagad Fort in Pune.
However, holes in her testimony prompted investigators to dig deeper. During the probe, police allegedly uncovered evidence suggesting that Goyal was in a relationship with Chaudhary and no longer wanted to go ahead with her planned marriage to Agarwal. The couple's wedding was only months away. Their families had reportedly begun extensive preparations, including booking a palace in Udaipur for the ceremony. According to police, Goyal persuaded Ketan to accompany her to Lohagad Fort, where Chaudhary later joined them. Investigators allege the two then pushed him into the gorge and attempted to portray the death as an accident.
The arrests followed a complaint by Ketan's father, Vishal Agrawal, and weeks of investigation by the police. Officers are now working to establish the exact sequence of events and determine whether anyone else may have been involved. Ends (With inputs from agencies)
