Nagpur Madrasa Teacher's Friend Booked For Trying To Sexually Assault Boy; 10 Children Rescued Published By, Last Updated: June 23, 2026, 18:16 IST 10 boys rescued after alleged sexual assault attempt, police hunt accused as officials probe the incident. The children were from different states, with most of them belonging to Madhya Pradesh and Bihar. (AI Generated) A madrasa teacher’s friend has been booked for allegedly attempting to sexually assault a minor boy, Nagpur police said on Tuesday, adding that 10 children have been rescued from the facility. The madrasa, located in the Tajbagh area of Nagpur, housed 10 children, mostly from Madhya Pradesh and Bihar, who were studying Arabic and Urdu, Sakkardara police station in-charge Ramesh Khune told PTI Videos. The 26-year-old accused, a resident of Bihar, was reportedly visiting his friend’s facility during which he allegedly tried to sexually assault a 16-year-old boy while the minor was sleeping there in the wee hours of June 19.PTI quoted Ramesh Khune, Inspector, Sakkardara Police Station, saying, “On the June 20 at around 2 AM, an incident occurred at a madrasa called Darul Uloom Taj in the Tajbagh area near Kartarpur station.
A man named Moula, who was a friend of one of the teachers and was originally from Bihar, used to visit the madrasa from time to time." “On that particular night, he came to the madrasa. It is alleged that he attempted to engage in inappropriate conduct with a child who was asleep. The child woke up immediately and raised an alarm. The following morning, the child informed the teacher about the incident. The teacher questioned the accused and removed him from the premises," he said. After being alerted, the police and the Child Welfare Committee registered a case against the accused on June 21 under relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. “There were a total of 10 boys. We rescued them and placed them in a child shelter. The accused is currently absconding, but we expect to locate him soon. Our team is actively searching for him," Khune said.
After the incident came to light, Maharashtra State Minority Commission Chairman Pyare Khan said that he has spoken to Nagpur’s Joint Police Commissioner and sought immediate action. PTI quoted him saying that about 10 children came to him, and two of them claimed that “something wrong had happened to them". “We asked the police to investigate the entire matter and bring out what actually happened. Some of the children were from Bihar, some were probably from Nagpur. I don’t have full details, but some were from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. There were a total of ten children," he said. While pointing out that the children were kept in a poorly maintained room, Khan said: “There are other madrasas like this. These are not proper madrasas. There was a small room where 8 to 10 children were kept. It seems that even the ‘modern madrasa’ scheme of the government is being misused, and some officials are involved." “When officials give government money to a madrasa, it is their duty to verify that it is indeed a madrasa and that children are actually being taught there," he added.
