A security breach occurred outside the White House after an armed suspect opened fire at a security checkpoint. According to the US Secret Service, the individual removed a weapon from a bag shortly after 6 PM Eastern Time and fired at posted officers. Security personnel returned fire, injuring the suspect, who later died at an area hospital. Approximately twenty shots were fired during the confrontation. The White House was immediately placed under lockdown, with sniper teams deployed to the roof and journalists moved to the press briefing room for shelter.
President Donald Trump was inside the White House during the incident but remained unharmed. A bystander was also struck during the crossfire, though it remains unclear whose bullet caused the injury. No Secret Service agents were injured. This incident follows a reported assassination attempt on Ivanka Trump in Florida just a day prior, raising security concerns in Washington, D.C.
