Bengaluru's Brand-New Rs 500-Crore Road Is Already Sinking — 4 Days Before Inauguration Reported By, Last Updated: June 23, 2026, 14:17 IST The road was constructed by BDA as part of its golden jubilee celebrations — making the pre-inauguration collapse particularly awkward for the agency. A nearly 20-metre patch near Kadabagere was found with the road surface visibly sinking and breaking up. (AI image) A brand-new arterial road built by the Bengaluru Development Authority at a cost of hundreds of crores has begun deteriorating before its inauguration, with a stretch near Kadabagere showing surface sinking, loose gravel and visible damage — prompting hurried repairs and fresh questions about the quality of civic infrastructure in the city. What Went Wrong? The 10.7-km Major Arterial Road connects Kadabagere Cross on Magadi Road with Mysuru Road and is scheduled to be inaugurated on June 27.
A nearly 20-metre patch near Kadabagere was found with the road surface visibly sinking and breaking up even before a single vehicle had used it. Officials rushed in repair crews who mixed in aggregates to patch the damage. Built To Celebrate, Now A Source Of Embarrassment The road was constructed by BDA as part of its golden jubilee celebrations — making the pre-inauguration collapse particularly awkward for the agency. Images of the deterioration spread quickly on social media, triggering public outrage and ridicule, and reigniting a long-running debate about road construction standards and accountability in Bengaluru. What The BJP MP Said BJP MP Tejasvi Surya weighed in with pointed sarcasm. “Kadabagere-Chalaghatta road got damaged even before the inauguration," he said. “If you look at it one way, it feels like this government is people-friendly — because if the road had cracked and sunk after inauguration, there could have been harm to people, even fatalities, and the government would have had to pay compensation.
Since it got damaged before inauguration, it feels like they did it keeping people’s welfare in mind." He added: “I’m being sarcastic, but how long will this go on? This is how unfortunate it has become." A Familiar Story For Bengaluru The incident is not an isolated one. Bengaluru residents have long complained about roads that crumble within weeks of being built or repaved, particularly after monsoon. Critics say the pattern points to systemic failures in contractor accountability, material quality checks and on-site supervision during construction. What BDA Says BDA has not issued an official statement on the damage or whether the June 27 inauguration will proceed as planned.
