A Special Investigation Team and forensic experts have begun their probe into the massive fire in Lucknow's Aliganj that claimed 15 lives. The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister visited the tragedy site, met the injured, announced ex gratia, and ordered the investigation. Four accused, including the building owner, have been arrested, and four officials suspended. The probe has exposed blatant safety violations, primarily the illegal conversion of a residential property for commercial use without necessary infrastructure upgrades.
Evacuation was severely hindered by critical lapses, including an auto-locked main gate requiring biometric access, inadequate staircase space, and the complete absence of emergency exits. Forensic teams are investigating the fire's origin, examining potential short circuits in the air conditioning or electrical control panels, and analyzing the rapid spread of smoke. Meanwhile, a deceased victim's mother alleged that rescue operations were delayed by two hours, pointing to a failure in prioritizing the evacuation of the injured.
