(Photo: PTI file) Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday criticised the Centre over repeated fuel price hikes and the fuel shortage situation in several parts of the country, accusing the government of burdening citizens while allegedly refusing cheaper oil and gas supplies from Russia and Iran. With petrol and diesel prices revised upward for the third time in around two weeks, fuel rates have reportedly increased by nearly Rs 4 to Rs 5 per litre.
Cooking gas cylinder prices have also risen sharply, triggering concerns among consumers already dealing with inflation. Kejriwal Slams Repeated Fuel Price Hikes In a video posted on X, Kejriwal said, “Today once again, the Government of India has increased the prices of petrol and diesel. This is the third increase in the last 10 to 15 days. The government is giving people ‘slow poison.’ In the last 10 to 15 days, petrol and diesel prices have increased by nearly Rs 4 to Rs 5 per litre. “People are finding it difficult to run their households," he said, adding that the government was not reportedly providing clarity on the situation. AAP Flags ‘Fuel Shortage’ Across States The former Delhi CM also referred to reports of fuel shortages in several states, alleging that long queues had formed outside petrol pumps in Gujarat, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh. “Not only are prices rising in the country, but there is now also a shortage of petrol, gas and diesel across India," he said. The AAP leader further questioned why India was not purchasing cheaper fuel from Russia and Iran despite offers from both countries. “Both Russia and Iran are saying that they are ready to provide oil and gas to India at cheaper prices, but the Government of India is saying that it will not buy from them. Why will it not buy?" he asked.
Kejriwal also urged citizens to share their views on whether India should import cheaper fuel from the two nations.
