The devastating fire tragedy in Lucknow has claimed 15 lives, prompting swift action from the Uttar Pradesh government. Authorities have arrested four individuals, including building owner Virendra Shukla, joint owner Ramakrishna Upadhyay, and co-owner Tushank Krishna Jaiswal. An FIR has been registered, pressing charges of culpable homicide, criminal negligence, and violations of fire safety laws. Investigations reveal glaring lapses, as the property was supposed to be residential but operated as a commercial complex for over a decade without a fire safety NOC.
The owners allegedly used a small building clause to evade regulations. Victims were left with no escape route due to a narrow staircase and an automated door that locked during a power cut. Furthermore, the exit gate was blocked by multiple air conditioner compressors. Trapped inside with severe smoke inhalation, several youngsters were forced to jump out of the building to escape the blaze.
Police continue to probe the role of other accused as further arrests remain likely.
