An explosion at the Barzan local gas supply facility in Qatar's Ras Laffan Industrial City has killed thirteen people, including twelve Indian nationals and one Pakistani national. Operated by Qatar Energy LNG, the incident also left sixty-six people injured, including several Indians. Qatari authorities stated that the explosion was an operational accident and ruled out any sabotage or hostile activity.
The facility had restarted operations on nineteenth of June after being shut since December 2025. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar expressed deep sadness over the tragedy. The Indian Embassy in Doha is coordinating with Qatari authorities to provide assistance to the families of the affected Indian nationals.
