(Representational image/Getty) Uttar Pradesh has emerged as the top power-supplying state in the country after successfully meeting a record peak electricity demand of 32,348 MW, the state government said on Monday. The achievement was recorded at 10:48 pm on June 21, marking the highest-ever peak power demand met by the state. Officials said this also surpassed Maharashtra’s earlier national record of 32,317 MW, set on May 13, 2026. The Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) ensured uninterrupted supply despite the high demand, which officials described as a major milestone in the state’s power sector under the Yogi Adityanath government.
According to the government, the state has consistently been recording high peak demand supply figures in recent days. On June 20, Uttar Pradesh supplied 31,549 MW, while on June 19 it supplied 30,968 MW. The previous highest peak demand in the state was 31,824 MW recorded on May 24, followed by 31,486 MW on June 11. Officials said the consistent rise reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen power infrastructure, including the expansion of substations, upgradation of transformers and adoption of modern technologies to improve efficiency and reliability. The government said power personnel are working round the clock to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply across the state, including during adverse weather conditions. Regular inspections of substations are being carried out, along with maintenance work on transmission lines and equipment. Additional Chief Secretary (Energy) and UPPCL Chairman Dr Ashish Kumar Goyal said the successful handling of record demand was a “historic achievement" for the state’s power sector.
“The successful supply of a record power demand of 32,348 MW is a historic achievement for Uttar Pradesh’s power sector," Goyal noted. UPPCL Director (Distribution) Gyanendra Dhar Dwivedi said electricity supply is being maintained beyond roster levels, and unnecessary shutdowns have been restricted. He added that only essential feeder maintenance shutdowns are being permitted, with executive engineers authorised to approve them. “Executive Engineers have been authorised to approve feeder shutdowns so that only necessary and essential shutdowns are undertaken," he said.
