The prestigious Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh has taken the initiative to install a statue of the great sage Sushruta on its premises. Yet, one of the world's oldest surgical institutions now acknowledges that the history of surgery was not shaped solely in Europe; a significant chapter of it was written in India. Thus, this is not just the unveiling of a statue, but the restoration of a forgotten chapter of medical history at the very site where the statue stands.
The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh was established in 1505. Today, it boasts over 33,000 members across more than 140 countries and is ranked among the world's most prestigious surgical institutions.
