Rs 370 Biryani Row: Comedian Pranit More, Himanshu Jangra Appear Before NCW Published By, Last Updated: June 22, 2026, 21:07 IST Pranit More and Himanshu Jangra face NCW hearing over Rs370 biryani controversy and alleged misogynistic remarks, sparking debate on consent and dating. On June 11, the NCW took suo motu cognizance into the ongoing controversy over “Rs370 biryani" and ordered “immediate, stringent, and time-bound" action against comedian Pranit More and participant Himanshu Jangra. Stand-up comedian Pranit More and Himanshu Jangra on Monday appeared before the Commission for Women (NCW) office for a hearing in connection to their controversial remarks on women.
On June 11, the NCW took suo motu cognizance into the ongoing controversy over “Rs370 biryani" and ordered “immediate, stringent, and time-bound" action against comedian Pranit More and participant Himanshu Jangra. According to PTI, the commission also summoned comedian Madhur Virli in a separate matter over his derogatory remarks against women during a stand-up act. “The NCW has taken suo motu cognisance of widely reported media coverage and viral video footage concerning an incident during a stand-up comedy show held in Gurugram, Haryana, where remarks allegedly glorifying sexual coercion and non-consensual conduct towards a woman were publicly made and subsequently applauded," the commission had earlier said in a statement.
The controversy began during one of Pranit More’s live shows when audience member Himanshu Jangra was invited into a conversation. During the interaction, Jangra spoke about taking a woman out on a date and spending around Rs 370 on biryani. However, what sparked outrage was his suggestion that because he had paid for the meal, he expected intimacy in return. Many viewers who later watched the clip accused Jangra of treating dating like a transaction and reducing a woman to something that could be “earned" in exchange for money spent on a meal. The remark sparked widespread outrage online, with many people calling it misogynistic, transactional, and deeply revealing of a mindset that continues to shape modern dating experiences.
