'No Place For Mafia': CM Yogi Urges People In Hamirpur To Promote Development, Heritage Published By, Last Updated: June 22, 2026, 22:03 IST CM Yogi said the previous Samajwadi Party government had allowed sand, mining, and land mafias to operate freely across Bundelkhand. Rapid Read Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath in Hamirpur. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for 75 development projects worth more than Rs 636 crore at Swami Brahmanand Mahavidyalaya in Rath, Hamirpur on Sunday, declaring that the Bundelkhand region now had “no place for mafias" under the state’s double-engine government. The CM addressed a public gathering in Rath, where he announced a new bus stand for the town, called for a university proposal from Swami Brahmanand College, and pushed for a medical college in the Hamirpur district. “There is no place for mafia under the double-engine government. They are now either in jail or have been eliminated," Adityanath said at the event, urging people to avoid divisions based on caste, religion or language and instead promote healthy competition for development, heritage, faith, and economic growth.
The 75 projects, covering irrigation, water supply, and connectivity infrastructure, were announced alongside a short film on Hamirpur’s development. Among the projects cited by the CM were the Ken-Betwa Link Project, Kabrai Dam, Ratauli Dam, Bhavani Dam, Kachnoda Dam, and the Chilli-Majhgawan sprinkler irrigation project. Adityanath told the gathering that the Har Ghar Jal scheme had brought piped water to households across the region and asked residents to use water conservatively. He cited El Nino-related warnings to explain why: “There could be untimely and reduced rainfall over the next three years," he said, urging farmers to adopt irrigation methods that produce higher yields with less water. On law and order, the CM said the previous Samajwadi Party government had allowed sand, mining, and land mafias to operate freely across Bundelkhand, occupying land, running illegal mining operations, and threatening traders, women, and police personnel. He said those conditions had reversed under the current administration. He also alleged that the SP government imposed restrictions on Shri Krishna Janmotsav and Kanwar Yatra while encouraging unruly conduct on roads during Muharram and Eid.
Referencing Operation Sindoor, Adityanath said, “When the BrahMos missile manufactured in Lucknow was launched against Pakistan, it was forced to plead for mercy," drawing a direct line between Uttar Pradesh’s defence manufacturing output and the Indian military’s recent operations. The CM said youth from Bundelkhand districts, including Mahoba, Hamirpur, Lalitpur, Jalaun, and Jhansi, were now being recruited into the police force, which he said had not been the case under previous governments. He added that once new aircraft are inducted and air services begin from Chitrakoot, the region would gain direct air connectivity. On industry, Adityanath said investment proposals had already arrived for India’s largest planned industrial city near Jhansi, with companies including Hindustan Unilever, JK Cement, Rimjhim Ispat, NTPC Solar Plant, and GAIL India having received project approvals in the Bundelkhand region over the past nine years. Addressing the Swami Brahmanand College management committee directly, Adityanath said: “Submit the proposal, and we will establish a university." He asked that the proposed institution be built to allow college affiliations from other districts, offer modern and technical education, and support skill development linked to the Defence Manufacturing Corridor.
