(Representative image) The Aadhaar mobile application has recorded more than 31 million downloads in less than five months since its launch, indicating a growing shift towards smartphone-based access to identity-related services in India. According to official figures, nearly four million users have used the application to update their registered mobile numbers, while about 8.5 lakh people have changed their addresses through the platform, reducing the need for visits to physical enrolment centres.

The app is aimed at simplifying access to Aadhaar-linked services by allowing users to manage and verify their identities directly from their mobile devices. It incorporates several privacy-focused features, including the ability to lock and unlock biometrics with a single tap, face authentication for presence verification, access to authentication records, and a QR code-enabled digital contact card that can be shared instantly. It also allows to download e-Aadhaar and facilitates easy appointment booking online for visiting Aadhaar Seva Kendras (ASKs) among others. Officials said the application is increasingly being used in practical settings such as hotel check-ins, hospital admissions, visitor management systems, event access control, and the verification of gig workers and service providers through QR code-based offline authentication.

Available on both Android and iOS platforms, the Aadhaar App forms part of broader efforts to expand digital public services and make identity management more convenient, secure and accessible for residents across the country.
