At an event held on Monday (June 22, 2026) at the Sri Krishna Memorial Hall to felicitate newly-elected Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Members of the Legislative Council, the party sought to mobilise Extremely Backward Class (EBC) voters in the State. The BJP has five EBC MLCs in Bihar. Party leaders recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s contribution to EWCs, and paid tributes to the late former Bihar Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur, who belonged to an EWC community. Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary; Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai; Bihar Minister of Art, Culture, Mining and Geology Pramod Kumar Chandravanshi, among others, spoke at the event. There are 27 Ministers in the Central government from Other Backward Classes (OBCs) and EBCs, party leaders said.
“India has become the fastest growing country in the world,” Mr. Rai said, adding, “The EBCs are central to all the welfare policies of the Modi government.” “Today, the children of our family are getting education in Central and Sainik Schools, and for this we feel obliged to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, under whose leadership the country is progressing at a faster speed, as is Bihar under the leadership of Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary,” Mr. Chandravanshi, who hails from an EBC community, said. “The NDA (Democratic Alliance) government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has worked for the development of all sections of the society...he (Mr. Modi) himself is the bodyguard of the 36% EBC population in the State,” the Chief Minister said.
“Our government is taking strict action against organised crime and criminals in Bihar. The administration is committed to ensuring public safety is not compromised,” Mr. Choudhary said, and recalling the recent examination-related irregularities, added, “The government will not tolerate any attempt to undermine the examination system.” “In the coming days, our (EBC-OBC) role in all four corners of Bihar will be strengthened. The NDA government has brought about several policies for the development of all sections of society, and several of them are directly benefitting the EBC people in Bihar,” a resolution passed at the event stated. The two-page resolution also listed several welfare policies of the BJP-led NDA government in Bihar. “Among the 1.61 crore ration card holders from the EBC category, food grains worth ₹6,024.45 crore was distributed under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan scheme; over 1 crore people of Bihar are receiving free medical assistance of up to ₹5 lakh under the Ayushaman Bharat scheme…Today, we can say with pride that ₹42 lakh crore has been distributed in the country without any corruption charges,” the resolution said.
