The Tamil Nadu government led by the TVK has cancelled 46 temple-linked commercial projects approved under the previous DMK regime. The projects, which included 29 marriage halls and 17 commercial complexes, were allocated around 245 crore rupees from the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department funds. The government stated that the diverted funds will now be used solely for temple development and devotee welfare, citing a lack of progress, court orders, and financial constraints.
While the DMK argued that these projects aimed at asset and revenue creation for temples, the TVK administration emphasized transparency and strict utilization of temple funds for religious purposes. The decision has sparked a political face-off in the state assembly. Subscribe to India Today for NEW VIDEOS EVERY DAY and make sure to enable Push Notifications so you'll never miss a new video.
