At least five people lost their lives and several others were hospitalised after an ammonia gas leak at a seafood processing factory in Tiruvallur district, Tamil Nadu. Dozens of affected workers remain on ventilator support. The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister announced a financial assistance of two lakh rupees each to the families of the deceased and ordered a detailed investigation into the tragedy.
A three-member committee has initiated its probe and is expected to submit a report within three days. Meanwhile, the incident triggered a major commotion in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, where opposition leaders demanded a discussion on the tragedy and urged the state government to increase the compensation amount.
