Intense rain has lashed Mumbai, bringing thunderstorms, lightning, and waterlogging, as the southwest monsoon gains strength. The Meteorological department has issued a yellow alert for continued rainfall. However, overall early season rainfall data reveals a critical national deficit of forty-six percent, with India receiving fifty-three point one millimetres of rain against the normal ninety-seven point six millimetres.
Experts state that June twenty twenty-six has been the driest in over a century, specifically one hundred and twenty-six years. This rainfall shortfall is highly severe across major states, with Maharashtra reporting an eighty-five percent deficit, Gujarat at eighty-four percent, and Madhya Pradesh down fifty-eight percent, raising serious concerns for Indian farmers.
