In a major initiative aimed at ensuring stable employment opportunities for former Agniveers, the Gujarat government has announced a 20 per cent reservation for them in direct recruitment for Class III posts across several departments. The decision was announced by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel in an X post (originally in Gujarati) on Sunday. The benefits will apply to recruitment in several uniformed services, including Armed Police Sub-Inspector, Armed Police Constable, State Reserve Police (SRP) Platoon Commander and Police Constable posts.
Agniveers will also enjoy the concessions in recruitment to jail and forest departments. CM Patel stated, "... former Agniveers will also be given this benefit in direct recruitment to Jailor Group-2 under the Jail Department, Jail Sepoy as well as Forest Guard Class-3 and Forest Watcher Class-3 categories of the Forest and Environment Department." The move aligns with broader efforts by the Centre and various state governments to create career opportunities for those who successfully complete their service tenure under the 'Agnipath' scheme, which was introduced in 2022 for recruitment of young people to other ranks of all three branches of the military for a four-year period.
