A massive fire that broke out in a building in Lucknow's Aliganj area on Sunday triggered panic among residents, prompted a large-scale rescue operation and drew the attention of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who ordered officials to rush to the spot and accelerate relief efforts. The blaze erupted in the Purnia area of Aliganj, sending thick plumes of smoke billowing into the sky and engulfing the building in flames. However, senior police officials later told Aaj Tak, that there was neither a coaching centre nor a library operating in the building.
PET SHOP ON GROUND FLOOR, GAMING ZONE ABOVE According to police, a pet shop was operating on the ground floor of the building, while the upper floor housed a gaming zone where employees worked on software related to games. The fire is believed to have started in the lower portion of the building before rapidly spreading, though the exact cause remains unclear. As flames and smoke engulfed the structure, local residents joined rescue efforts before firefighters and police personnel arrived. MASSIVE RESCUE OPERATION Fire department teams launched an extensive operation to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings. Several fire tenders, including specialised equipment, were pressed into service as firefighters worked to bring the situation under control and evacuate anyone who may have been trapped inside.
Authorities were also assessing whether any casualties or injuries had occurred. CM YOGI TAKES COGNISANCE Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took cognisance of the incident and directed officials to immediately reach the site. According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister's Office, the Chief Minister ordered that relief and rescue operations be expedited and instructed officials to ensure proper medical treatment for those injured. He also directed the administration to remain vigilant and continuously monitor rescue operations. "Ensure that relief and rescue work is carried out swiftly and that the injured receive proper treatment," the Chief Minister directed, according to the CMO statement. CAUSE OF FIRE YET TO BE KNOWN The cause of the blaze has not been established so far.
Fire and police officials are expected to conduct a detailed investigation after the site is secured and the flames are completely extinguished. Senior administrative and police officers remained at the scene, monitoring the operation as emergency teams continued efforts to douse the fire and assess the extent of the damage. Ends
