A girl was allegedly kidnapped from her home by a man, raped in an open field, and tortured with cigarette burns in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj district, police said. The main accused in the case was later arrested following a police encounter in which he was shot in both legs. The incident occurred on June 14 when the girl and her family were sleeping on the terrace of their house. The accused, Musharraf, entered the house and abducted the minor, according to the survivor's family.
He then took her to an open field, where he allegedly raped her and burned parts of her body with cigarettes, police said. Read Full Story Musharraf fled after the girl lost consciousness. Her family and local residents later found her lying unconscious in the field and rushed her to a hospital. Police said extensive medical examinations on the girl are being conducted and are investigating whether the main accused knew the girl. On Sunday night, police spotted Musharraf during a routine vehicle check.
He allegedly tried to flee and opened fire at the police team. During the ensuing exchange of fire, police shot him in both legs, injuring him, Prayagraj Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (City) Manish Shandilya said. "Musharraf and the girl lived in the same village. He sexually assaulted the girl and fled the spot. Police launched a manhunt. On Sunday night, we received information that Musharraf opened fire on police personnel during a routine vehicle check. He fired at the police, and in retaliation, officers shot him in the legs when he attempted to escape," he said.
Musharraf is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital, while police are searching for two other accused. An FIR has been registered against him and the two others. An illegal country-made pistol was recovered from Musharraf's possession at the scene of the encounter, Shandilya said.
