The West Bengal government has reduced the budget allocation for madrassa education and minority affairs from over five thousand crore rupees to two thousand one hundred and sixty-five crore rupees. While discontinuing religion-based financial assistance schemes and stipends under the madrassa department, the administration has increased the North Bengal Development Budget to one thousand eight hundred and twenty-one crore rupees.
The decision follows a major policy shift regarding funding for various religious schemes, alongside plans for scrutiny of unregistered institutions in the state, similar to previous measures implemented in Uttar Pradesh.
