'Useless Fellows': Kharge Rebukes Congress Workers Over 'DK-DK' Chants At Bengaluru Event | WATCH Published By, Last Updated: June 22, 2026, 10:38 IST Visibly irritated by the chants of 'DK, DK', Kharge told the crowd that the programme belonged to the Congress party and was not meant to celebrate an individual. Rapid Read Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday lost his temper with party workers who repeatedly raised slogans in support of Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar during the ‘Sankalpa Samavesha’ programme in Bengaluru. As chants of “DK, DK" interrupted the event, Kharge reminded the gathering that it was a Congress programme and not meant to promote any individual leader. Calling the slogan-shouting workers “useless fellows", he said there was no place for personality cults in the party. “Will the entire country be affected if you shout here? This is not an individual’s programme, it is a party programme. You useless fellows. There is no worship of individuals here, we are here for the party programme which brings all of us together," Kharge said.
The Congress chief also questioned why other workers had attended the event if a small group was going to disrupt the proceedings. “If one person says one thing and another person shouts something else, what have the others come here for? Have they come to sweep the floor?" he asked. Referring to his 58 years in politics, Kharge said leaders draw their identity from the Congress and that the party has contributed much more to many leaders than they have contributed to it. “I have 58 years of political experience. Many leaders have come here; although their contribution to the party is small, the party has given them a very big contribution," he said. #WATCH | Bengaluru, Karnataka: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge loses his cool at party workers during the Sankalpa Samavesha programme after the workers raised “DK-DK" slogans“Will the entire country be affected if you shout here? He said footage from the event would be reviewed to identify the workers involved. “Remember, discipline is always necessary for the party. Whoever is shouting here, there will be footage. I will take disciplinary action after reviewing the footage," he said. Reacting to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s rebuke of workers raising slogans for Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, BJP leader Gourav Vallabh claimed the episode exposed a tussle for power within the Congress. He alleged that Kharge himself aspired to become chief minister and mocked the party’s leadership structure, saying Congress was controlled by three “holding companies" — “Congress M" for Sonia Gandhi, “Congress P" for Priyanka Gandhi and “Congress R" for Rahul Gandhi — while “Congress K", referring to Kharge, functioned merely as their subsidiary. “Look, can you imagine that the President of a political party is getting angry with the slogans being raised for his Chief Minister? Why is this happening? Because the President himself wants to become the Chief Minister. Today, there are three holding companies in Congress and a subsidiary of these three holding companies.
