The TVK government in Tamil Nadu has cancelled forty-six temple-funded business projects approved during the previous DMK-era administration, totalling two hundred forty-six crore rupees. The decision includes scrapping twenty-nine marriage halls and seventeen commercial complexes on temple lands, citing court stay orders and financial strain on the temples.
The state government announced that temple funds will strictly be used for religious and sacred purposes instead of commercial ventures. The BJP has welcomed the decision, stating that temple funds must only be utilised for the respective temples and their developments rather than being managed or misused by administrative authorities.
