Rapid Read TMC MLA Ramendu Singharay brought on transit remand to Hooghly, greeted with protests and egg-hurling Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA from the Tarakeswar Assembly constituency, Ramendu Sinharay, was brought to Dhaniakhali Police Station in West Bengal’s Hooghly district on Sunday on transit remand after being arrested from Belgaum in Karnataka in connection with a case related to the alleged transportation of government relief materials and offences under the Arms Act.
As he was brought to the police station, people present at the spot raised slogans of “Chor-Chor" and hurled eggs at the former MLA. According to Hooghly Rural Superintendent of Police Kunwar Bhushan Singh, on the evening of June 11, around 7 pm, taking advantage of a power outage, Ramendu Sinharay and his associates were transporting government relief materials on a motor van from Vivekananda Teachers Training College in Kotalpur under Dhaniakhali Police Station limits, owned by the former MLA. The officer said local BJP supporters stopped the vehicle and strongly objected.
During the confrontation, Sinharay allegedly threatened the BJP supporters by showing a small arm and managed to flee from the spot. Following the incident, a case was registered at Dhaniakhali Police Station (Case No. 188/26 dated 12.06.2026) under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Arms Act against Ramendu Sinharay and others, police said.
