The Special Investigation Team probing the alleged embezzlement of donations at the Ayodhya Ram Temple has highlighted flaws in the transparency and security of the temple trust's operational methods. The preliminary report recommends structural reforms, including the appointment of a Chief Executive Officer and professional management, similar to the Kashi Vishwanath Temple administration. The SIT, which has questioned nearly 150 individuals including trust members, bankers, and security staff, focuses on systemic practices rather than holding a single person culpable.
Key functionaries have been directed not to leave Ayodhya as the investigation continues. The probe has led to political reactions, with Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav questioning the impartiality of the investigation and raising concerns over missing CCTV footage. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has also accused the government of lacking accountability regarding temple donations. The Ram Temple receives massive daily offerings, with over 300 crore rupees earned in the financial year 2025, currently counted by a team comprising State Bank of India officials and a private agency.
