'We Want A Standalone Event': Marco Rubio Pledges Commitment To Quad Leaders' Summit Reported By, Edited By Last Updated: May 23, 2026, 20:12 IST Marco Rubio says Washington wants a Quad Leaders Summit this year, prefers a standalone event but may hold it alongside a broader gathering due to election travel constraints US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Delhi. (Reuters) US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that Washington is looking forward to Quad Leaders’ Summit this year and he would like to do as a side event to a broader gathering. Speaking to CNN-News18, Rubio said, “We want to, and we have to, find an opportunity to do that. We would like to do it as a stand-alone event, and maybe as a side event to a broader gathering, with all the leaders going to be there." “In some countries there is an election, including ours, so travel would make it more difficult to hold a leaders’ Quad meeting," he said.

“It would be perfect if we could do it as a stand-alone meeting, but we would like to bring them together because they will happen to be in the same place at the same time. It is an important signal to continue to build on the Quad," Rubio added. ‘India has tremendous capacity’, Says Rubio Rubio further said that “India and the United States are perfectly aligned. Today, I also spoke with the Prime Minister, who is very forceful on this as well. World is looking to India as a forum for the next Quad meeting of foreign ministers. There is significant investment in the United States by Indian companies. We have many shared interests." “India has tremendous capacity and a highly skilled workforce. Our companies are very interested in producing here, and as multiple countries around the world develop their defense industrial base, India can be a major contributor to that effort," he said.

Rubio On Iran War “The reason oil prices are going up is because Iran has decided to unlawfully and criminally take control of the Strait of Hormuz. Iran threatens to sink commercial ships that do not pay them the toll and comply with their instructions. This is a total violation and is not allowed under any law. The United States and India both share very common beliefs. As far as negotiations are concerned, it is not easy to negotiate with Iran. It is a fractured system led by radical clerics “We would prefer negotiations to reach a peaceful end. More important is the nuclear threat from Iran. We would prefer that to be addressed through negotiations. We are continuing to do so, and as I speak to you, we have people involved in this conversation. President is clear that the status quo will not remain one way or the other; we are going to address it.

The President is clear about that," he added.
