US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer To Visit India For Talks On Trade Deal Days After Modi-Trump Meet Published By, Last Updated: June 22, 2026, 06:57 IST US Trade Representative Ambassador Jamieson Greer will visit New Delhi to meet Piyush Goyal, advancing India US trade talks and reviewing the interim agreement commitments. US Trade Representative, Ambassador Jamieson Greer (Credits: Reuters) The United States has announced that its Trade Representative, Ambassador Jamieson Greer, will travel to New Delhi this week for discussions with Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and other senior Indian officials. The talks will focus on advancing negotiations for the proposed India–US Bilateral Trade Agreement and reviewing progress made under the interim arrangement reached by the two countries. According to a statement issued by the US Trade Representative’s office on June 21, Greer’s visit is aimed at taking forward commitments made under the India–US joint statement issued after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump met on February 13, 2025.
“This week, Ambassador Jamieson Greer will travel to New Delhi, India, to meet with the Minister of Commerce and Industry of India, Piyush Goyal, and other senior Indian officials to discuss the historic United States–India Joint Statement and the Interim Agreement as part of the broader U.S.-India Bilateral Trade Agreement negotiations," said the official release. The discussions are expected to centre on expanding trade ties and ensuring what Washington described as a “fair, balanced and reciprocal" trading relationship. Following his India visit, Greer is scheduled to travel to Tashkent, Uzbekistan, where he will meet President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Presidential Administration chief Saida Mirziyoyeva and Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjaev to discuss bilateral trade matters. Why This Visit Matters? The visit comes at a crucial stage in India–US trade negotiations.
Both countries have been working toward finalising a comprehensive trade agreement that could help resolve longstanding issues related to tariffs, market access, digital trade and agricultural products. India and the US are each other’s major trading partners, with bilateral trade crossing $190 billion in recent years. Officials from both sides have repeatedly expressed their intention to significantly increase this figure over the coming years. Greer’s meetings in New Delhi are therefore being closely watched as an indicator of whether the two countries are moving closer to an interim pact or a broader trade agreement.
