Talks between the United States and Iran in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, have concluded after a day of intense negotiations mediated by Qatar and Pakistan. Despite concerns that discussions could collapse, diplomats say both sides remained engaged and agreed to continue the diplomatic process.
Major disagreements remain over Lebanon, the Strait of Hormuz, sanctions relief, and Iran's nuclear programme. US Vice President JD Vance described the meeting as historic, while Iranian officials insisted that commitments made in the memorandum of understanding must be implemented before negotiations can move forward.
Mediators from Qatar and Pakistan worked throughout the day to prevent a breakdown and keep both sides at the table. The talks mark only the second time since the 1979 Iranian Revolution that senior Iranian and American leaders have met face-to-face.
