YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council, Botcha Satyanarayana, on Sunday alleged that members of the Kapu community stepped forward to seek justice for Gade Sai Krishna’s family only after the State government failed to respond to their appeals and delayed the investigation into the alleged custodial death. Addressing a press conference after attending a meeting of YSRCP Kapu leaders in Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district, Mr. Satyanarayana said the delay in initiating a probe had triggered concern among Kapu leaders and community members.
“The government has no authority to eliminate any accused, irrespective of the allegations against him. Such actions are unconstitutional,” he said, adding that Kapu leaders had decided to extend financial assistance to Sai Krishna’s family. Responding to Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan’s remarks allegedly describing YSRCP leaders as criminals, Mr. Satyanarayana asked whether Kapu leaders in the party could be branded in such a manner and said the public would judge such comments.
He said the meeting was not convened solely to counter Mr. Pawan Kalyan. Participants adopted resolutions to oppose alleged atrocities against Kapus, provide legal support to victims, and raise issues concerning backward communities. Led by YSRCP MLC Thota Trimurthulu, the meeting was attended by senior leaders including Ambati Rambabu, Kurasala Kannababu, Jakkampudi Raja and Dadisetti Raja. The leaders decided to constitute a task force to respond to incidents affecting members of the Kapu community.
According to a party leader, the meeting also discussed the State government’s alleged failure to allocate funds to the Kapu Corporation as promised during the elections.
