A major industrial accident has been reported from Tamil Nadu after an alleged ammonia leak at a shrimp processing unit in the Tiruvallur district. At least two workers have died, while more than 40 others have been hospitalised after complaining of breathing difficulties following the leak. Several of the injured workers are undergoing treatment at hospitals in Thiruvallur and Chennai.
Officials said many remain in critical condition, with at least five workers currently receiving treatment in intensive care units. The Tamil Nadu government has formed a three-member committee to investigate the incident. The committee has been asked to submit a preliminary report within 24 hours and a final report within three days. Authorities are currently working to determine the exact cause of the alleged ammonia leak.
