Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) P. Narayana has envisioned a day when yoga is practiced voluntarily by citizens in every household in India, rather than being enforced as a government initiative. The Minister participated in the mass yoga program at Swatantra Park in Nellore on Sunday, along with the general public, to mark International Yoga Day 2026.
Speaking on the occasion, he hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for bringing global repute to yoga. It is heartening to note that yoga, which is part of Indian culture, is practiced across 190 countries today, he said. The Minister called upon the morning walkers and karate students who participated in the camp to make yoga practice a daily affair rather than an annual event.
He explained how the event had been planned to be conducted in a grand manner in every ward and village Secretariat under the instructions of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. โAs a part of urban development,
we have not only modernised and maintained urban parks, but have also roped in the services of yoga trainers to train the public, with an aim to ensure the overall wellbeing of our citizens,โ he concluded.
