Several yoga practitioners have helped bring yoga to the rural areas through a number of camps conducted ahead of the ‘International Day of Yoga 2026’. However, yoga practitioner and teacher P.V. Krishna Kumar has taken a step further in spreading awareness by performing ‘asanas’ while floating in water bodies. Hailing from Kamukuru in Balayapalle mandal in Tirupati district, which borders Nellore, Krishna Kumar has attracted the local youth by performing unique yogic postures and challenging them to follow him.
The M.Sc. degree holder in Yoga, who had earlier worked as a yoga teacher at the Kendriya Vidyalaya in Venkatagiri, practices and preaches yoga at various tanks, open wells and canals. Some of his asanas include lying cross-legged, holding hands above the head and spreading hands away from the body. “All I do is hold my breath and chant sacred verses while performing postures like Vrikshasana, Padmasana, Sethu Bandasana and others as mentioned in the ancient texts,” said Krishna Kumar.
The concentration improves significantly when the postures are performed while floating in water, he added. The yoga master also works as a progressive farmer, naturally
cultivating ‘Navara rice’, which is known to have a higher glycemic index of 60 and therefore helps to maintain blood sugar levels.
