The government defends the Great Nicobar Island project against allegations of environmental destruction raised by the opposition. A senior minister asserts that India's environmental laws are robust and that the project is crucial for the country's blue economy and strategic leverage. The minister accuses the opposition and certain ideological groups of running a propaganda campaign to halt national development, citing their history of opposing dams, mining, and highway projects through protests and litigation.
The government maintains that native tribes, including the Shompen and Jarawas, remain undisturbed and that development will coexist with environmental protection and tourism. Furthermore, the minister highlights the progress of the Deep Ocean Mission and mineral exploration initiatives. The government appeals to the opposition to stop being influenced by external non-governmental organizations and anti-India elements, urging a unified approach toward projects of national importance and strategic security.
